Thank you for visiting the Web Site for Holy Cross Church, Winter Haven, Florida. We are an Episcopal Church, part of the world-wide Anglican Communion of churches.
God has been doing an amazing work at Holy Cross. Just over six years ago there were only 32 people at Holy Cross. This included zero – as in – no children, youth, or young adults. Now, there is a thriving children’s ministry, an emerging youth ministry, and a score of young adults. We are blessed with people in every generation from infants to 90+; people of different races, nationalities, and faith journeys. We have people who are cradle Episcopalian/Anglicans; people from Roman Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Pentecostal, Methodist, and other traditions. There are also people who were of no faith background who found their peace with God through Jesus Christ while at Holy Cross.
We see ourselves as Bridge Builders: people trying to build relationship bridges between ourselves and others, and to God. In these relationships we anticipate that Jesus will move from us into the lives of others and help us be “reconciled to God through Christ Jesus” (2 Corinthians 5:19).
Our ministry is centered on a message God clearly spoke to me at a time of deep hurt while searching for God’s meaning in my life during that time. God said: “You are broken. All of you are broken. There is not a perfect person among you. Yet, I love you – all of you. And, because I love you I have chosen to be merciful to you, and to treat you with grace. Now, I expect you to do likewise with each other.”
That message from God was none other than the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. But taken to heart it challenges us to be honest with ourselves, to be non-judgmental; to be welcoming of others who are also seeking peace with God; and to be like brothers and sisters for each other in this incredible journey through life.
So, if you are expecting perfect people don’t come to Holy Cross. We will disappoint you. On-the-other hand, if you are looking for a place and a people with whom you can be real – even when it feels like sandpaper, where you can openly struggle with your brokenness and find healing, and where you will find encouragement to “fight the good fight of the faith” (1 Timothy 6:12), a people with whom you can worship, serve, grow, and have good fellowship, then Holy Cross might just be the church family for you.
We are a liturgical church with an evangelical spirit and a social consciousness. We believe everyone is worthy of having a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We invite you to, “Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him” (Psalm 34:8).
Yours in the fellowship of Christ’s servants,
Fr. Richard Bordin
